Bloodline

SCOPE

Don't get it twisted. Bloodline isn't your typical 'child gets abandoned by the man who created her, to then finally reunite with him 20 years later'. If you want the happy ending, then this is not the tale for you. The tale is in fact mine, and this is the truth that I have been protected from for 19 years.

To sum the story up, the film follows the main antagonist, Sophie (me), who slowly learns and understands the format of the story as she grows up but yet has more to discover such as the man's whereabouts and she has many questions for him. Now knowing who the man is and that he has a family of his own now, Sophie is suspicious as to whether he would want to get in contact but just isn't sure what to say and so with that being said, she wants to make the first move herself as there is more of her bloodline to discover.

STORY PREMISE

I typically want the documentary to have 3 episodes. A basic outline of the story is that a young adult (Sophie) finds herself in a difficult situation that she never saw coming and that situation is that herself and her mum were both financially unstable and had a lack of care because the biological father ran away. Now that Sophie is grown up, she is told of the real story after being told all of her life that she is a 'test tube baby'. Almost a year later after the truth is discovered, she takes it upon herself to get in contact with her biological father and the story goes from there.

STORY UPDATES

The evening (1st May 2020) after I wrote the plot, I did something unexpected. I reached out to the man that I came from and I unexpectedly received a response. didn't think that his Facebook was still in use, but surprisingly and to my relief it still was. Now, I know that you may be wondering why I did what I did, and surely after almost 20 years of not knowing him why on earth would I want to reach out to him? Surely he couldn't care less about me after him not being in contact with me for so long? You see, these are the questions that I asked myself plenty of times as well as considering many things too. The questions that I had for him were finally answered and more than anything it gave me the closure that I needed but more than anything I wanted an apology for all that he put me and mum through, in which he finally did apologise after an exchange of messages. You may be wondering what I gained from this experience and whether I regret reaching out. I considered many times that leaving him to do the hardest part (which was reaching out) but didn't know if he ever would and that my questions would go unanswered and wouldn't have any closure for myself up until I did ask. This is a dark thought but it is possible...I worried that if didn't ask, then maybe life can take him 'too soon' and then my questions would forever be remained unanswered, I knew that I would have never forgiven myself for not plucking up the courage and just asking. After all, what's the worst that could have happened?

After a few days of talking, things are going very well and he is especially glad that I got in touch. After quarantine is completely lifted we are hoping to meet.

BLOODLINE EPISODE OUTLINE

EPISODE 1: Sophie is born and the story takes place in 2 different decades where in one because she finds out that she is a test tube baby. In the second decade she finds out the truth that she comes from a man that wasn't interested in looking after her.

EPISODE 2: Sophie is riddled with emotions for almost a year and constantly considers circumstances before reaching out to the man that she comes from.

EPISODE 3: In the final episode, Sophie meets the man and the rest of her family.

PRODUCTION COMPANY

The short documentary will be produced under BBC Three. I have chosen BBC Three because I believe that BBC Three is a popular streaming channel and that the company have a wide range of genres and audiences that would be interested in the documentary. I want the time slot for the 3-part documentary to be played every day at 6pm. The reason why I want the episodes to be played at 6pm is because the documentary will show upsetting content. After the episodes have aired, they episodes will be available to rewatch / catch up on BBC iPlayer.
